Basic Chords

Check out my basic chord video guitar lesson which will have you playing chords in less than 10 minutes (8:06 to be exact!). I think they’re a great way to explain how to play guitar better than just text and mp3 samples. Here I show some basic open major guitar chords. This also shows the frets that you are supposed to play (with a number of 1, 2, or 3) and which strings are open (not fretted) with a number of 0.

Here’s some photos of the left hand playing these chords. Hopefully they will help you get the position right.

Guitar Tip: Cut Those Fingernails!

Fingernails on the fretboard can make it difficult to fret the note properly because the nail will contact the fretboard first. The tip of your finger may not be able to fret the note properly to make it sound correctly. So cut those nails regularly (and before your guitar lesson)!
