Beginner Guitar Chord Chart
Posted by: | CommentsHere’s a nice beginner guitar chord chart. Do the basic open chords first (C, D, E, A, G), leaving F for last. F is tough due to the ‘bar’ you make with your first finger (laying it flat across 2 strings at once).
Then move on to bar chords. Bar Chords are great because they are movable. There are only a few shapes, chords starting on 6 string, chords starting on 5 string, with each having a major and minor shape.

Check out my basic chord video guitar lesson which will have you playing chords in less than 10 minutes (8:06 to be exact!). I think they’re a great way to explain how to play guitar better than just text and mp3 samples. Here I show some basic open major guitar chords. This also shows the frets that you are supposed to play (with a number of 1, 2, or 3) and which strings are open (not fretted) with a number of 0.

Here’s some photos of the left hand playing these chords. Hopefully they will help you get the position right.
